12 Ancillary Retail | May 2018 NEWS FINAL PHASE OF LAX TERMINAL 1 PROJECT OPENS 10 RETAIL AND DINING CONCEPTS Los Angeles — The $508 mil- lion modernization project at LAX Terminal 1 will be complete by the end of the year. Los Angeles World Airports, Southwest and Westfield are behind the redevelopment. This final phase is bringing 10 new retail and restaurant con- cepts to the terminal for a total of 20 new dining and retail locations in the termi- nal since the project began in 2014. L.A. brands Cas- sell's Hamburgers, Trejo's Tacos and Urth Caffe are opening along- side Chick-fil-A, Einstein's Bagels, and Pei Wei Asian Diner. Half store and half app, the New Stand and The New Stand Kiosk will carry a rotating mix of coffee, new media, fancy snacks and travel essentials. Also opening at the terminal are Kiehl's, which offers natural skincare solutions, and MAC Cosmetics. QUAKER STEAK & LUBE SEEKS TO OPEN NEW RESTAURANTS IN NON-TRADITIONAL LOCATIONS Westlake, Ohio— Quaker Steak & Lube, the restau- rant concept known for its wings and sauces as well as décor that includes gas station memorabil- ia, classic cars, motorcycles and race cars, is look- ing to expand into non-traditional retail locations. Franchisees currently operate Quaker Steak & Lube locations at Pittsburgh International Airport and Cleveland International Airport. Bruce Lane, vice president of operations and franchise services with TA Restaurant Group, attended ARN Reve- nue Conference & Exhibition in March to network and discuss potential opportunities for new lo- cations for the Quaker Steak & Lube concept as well as the brand's new smaller concept, known as Lube Express.
